This is the best daylily for colonizing as it spreads rapidly and has naturalized all across the United States. The large, fleshy roots will help to control erosion as they spread. Their leaves are dark green and form arching, fountain-shaped clumps. The strong stems of the Tawny Daylily may hold up to 12 flared, trumpet-shaped flowers on each one. These blooms are unscented but beautiful and colored a rich orange with darker accents. Water these plants every week in the peak of summer heat. Usually one application of fertilizer is enough for Daylilies at the beginning of the growing season; over-fertilizing can lead to lush foliage, but a weakened floral display. Deadheading will promote better flowering.
