The only widely-grown perennial poppy, the Oriental Poppy's large, brightly colored flowers are truly astounding. Thin, satiny petals form cup-shaped single or double flowers up to 6 in. across. These poppies have a relatively short bloom period, so fill the gap they leave with Baby's Breath (Gypsophila) or other late-blooming, billowy perennials. To use as cut flowers, sear the cut ends with a flame, then place in water.
